Equally Loved

It’s hard to accept the parable included in this week’s text from Matthew. We want to side with the workers who spent all day hard at work in the hot sun when they expect more pay. The big shift we are called to is the understanding that in God’s economy there is nothing we can do to earn God’s love and God dispensers grace equally, to all, regardless of when we come to faith.

We’ll never be able to live up to all the forgiving Jesus asks of us on our own. In today’s reading, Jesus is giving us a message about grace and how we are called to live in response to what God has first done for us. Forgiving is hard work, but in forgiving God works healing in US.

Jesus knew there would be conflict in the church, after all, he was fully human and understood our human frailties. Conflict can be dealt with if we listen to Jesus command to love one another and if we remember, that which we share in common in Christ Jesus far outweighs that which would divide us.
